How much longer do website builders as a service companies like SquareSpace, Shopify, and Wix have?
AI coding tools hit the mainstream and now it’s easier than ever to build a fairly complex and decent-looking website without any coding skills. At what point do the legacy website-builder companies become obsolete? My guess is Shopify will hold out the longest, because of useful payment integrations and plugins.
Making a solid web-app using something like Claude Code is faster, easier, and might even look better than what you’ll get from a typical web-builder platform.
Seeing as Shopify is a publicly traded company that has already dropped 28% since the beginning of the year, it seems like the market is already seeing what I see.
My question to you guys, do you agree that the web builder companies are dead? Would you buy Shopify?
