Income ETFs that will provide income during recession.

Recently I have been stashing money for travel. Instead of leaving it just in cash or high yields savings account I put it in GPIX since I can kick the income tax bucket 10 years down the line and collect 8% in dividends every year. I plan on contributing the next three years but not pull anything out so that everything compounds.

Then I realized that this fund could act as a buffer fund as well during a market down turn and when things not working out so well. I could use it as income to supplement my emergency funds. But GPIX or any dividend fund is not suitable for this because during a market down turn GPIX would likely get wiped and dividends won't be guaranteed.

Are there ETFs/investment vehicles like bonds or stocks for such a need? Realistically after three years I would pull some travel expenses from it via distributions and leave the rest in place to keep compounding.
