M21, still in school but have an offer signed with a trading firm for next year after I graduate, for around 800k. With the goal of trying to retire early, I’d of course be putting most of my earnings into investments.
Recently I saw this paper that was interesting, it was about how individuals can achieve better diversification across their lives by having more notional invested early through the use of leverage, since people tend to have more money later than earlier. Paper here: \[[https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract\\\\\\\_id=1149340\](https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract%5C\_id=1149340)](https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract%5C%5C%5C_id=1149340%5D(https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract%255C_id=1149340)) (Life-Cycle Investing and Leverage: Buying Stock on Margin Can Reduce Retirement Risk)
Was wondering what you guys think about this idea. Should we be investing in high leverage products early in life to adjust for the fact that we simply have less money now than later? This could help even out the exposure to investments we have throughout time, though I’m not sure it’s worth it with the extra fees and risks that come with leverage.
