WATCHMAN, their flagship LAAO device, which is responsible for 10% of company revenue, was found recently to be “not noninferior” to anticoagulation alone (eg elliquis).
Essentially this means that performing a watchman has WORSE outcomes than anticoagulation alone. What doc in their right mind would refer for this knowing it would expose patients to procedural risk AND cause more bleeding? It makes no sense and is borderline malpractice. It will be de-prescribed.
