30M Living in a VHCOL Area
I was informed last week that my pension plan at work is changing and I will no longer have control on how the money I get from my employer gets invested. My pension will now be controlled by my employer who is investing the money into the the 30 year treasury yield. We've been promised at least a 3.5% in annual returns, or the actual annual % from the 30 year treasury yield - whatever is higher.
I've been accounting to have this money as part of my FIRE portfolio but now it seems like the potential value is very minimal based on historical recent data.
A couple of questions for the community:
1. Does anyone have a similar pension plan? If so, how did you incorporate your pension into your FIRE calculations?
2. Does it make sense to be more aggressive with my personal investment accounts (i.e. 403(b), Roth IRA, brokerage account) given that I technically have an account being invested in 100% bonds that could damper some higher risk investments?
3. Any other advise/feedback from folks who are/were in a similar situation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
