What I Look at Before Buying Any Stock

I try to separate two questions.

**Is this a business I want to own?**
**Is this a good price to own it?**

For the business, I look at revenue growth, free cash flow, margins, debt, return on invested capital and whether management is creating value with the cash it generates. Then I look at the runway. Is the market still expanding? Is the company gaining share? Does it have pricing power, switching costs or some advantage that gets stronger as it scales?

Valuation matters just as much. P/E alone tells very little. I compare earnings growth, FCF growth, PEG, historical multiples and what expectations are already embedded in the price. A great company can still be a bad investment if you pay for five years of perfect execution upfront.

Then I use technicals for timing, not for deciding whether the company is good.

I want to know where the stock sits versus its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, major support, previous highs, volume, RSI and the broader trend. I would rather buy strength coming out of a healthy consolidation or weakness into real support than chase something vertically extended.

Finally, I write down what would prove me wrong before buying.

The basic framework is pretty simple.

**Business quality → growth runway → cash flow → balance sheet → valuation → technical setup → risk.**

Fundamentals tell me **what to own**.
Technicals help me decide **when to own it**.
Risk management determines whether I’m around long enough for either to matter.
