39M tech PM. My RSUs quietly became 55% of net worth and I didn't notice till last week
Been at the same tech company for 6 years. Every RSU cycle I told myself Id sell to diversify but the stock kept going up so I kept holding. Last Sunday actually pulled all the balances into one spreadsheet.
55% of my invested net worth is in company stock. VTI + VXUS is 30%, cash 15%, everything else negligible. My comfort with this is proportional to the stock price which is a terrible way to make decisions.
Coworker down the hall did the exact same thing 2 years back and ended up with everything in the stock right before a 40% drawdown. Havent talked to him about it since.
Started selling this week, plan is 25% now, 25% every 3 months for the next year. Trying to average out timing risk since I cant time the top. Feels sick to do because the stock could rip after I sell but thats sort of the point.
Anyone else been through this and regretted the pace they diversified at? Slow drip vs rip the bandaid
