Pre-FOMC Minutes Market Snapshot: VIX Spikes, Precious Metals Hold Strong, DXY Pauses. What are you pricing in?
Hey guys,
Just wanted to do a quick pre-FOMC minutes market check. Multi-asset setup is looking pretty interesting ahead of the release today. Here is where things stand right now:
Gold (XAU): 4,119.29 (+0.45%) - strong defense here, showing some good relative strength.
Silver (XAG): 60.55 (+1.14%) - outperforming gold today.
Brent Crude: 76.48 (+1.53%) - catching a bid despite the broader deflation worries.
DXY: 101.03 (-0.08%) - completely flat, waiting for direction.
VIX: 16.14 (+3.73%) - up nearly 4%, looks like some solid hedging activity is picking up.
The market feels like the calm before the storm but that VIX tick tells me people are getting cautious. Precious metals are holding strong, maybe pricing in a softer tone from the Fed, while equities look a bit nervous.
A couple of questions for the macro guys here:
Is this VIX spike just normal pre-event option hedging or are we looking at a bigger volatility wave post-release?
Gold and Silver holding up this well ahead of the minutes is interesting. If the fed leans even slightly hawkish, do you think this defense drops?
How are you positioning your portfolios for today? Let's discuss.
