Is adult content an investable sector, or is there no clean public-market exposure?

I was thinking about the idea of investing within your circle of competence, and it led me to a strange but serious question.

Adult content is clearly a large online market. Subscription platforms, creator monetization, payment processing, AI-generated media, personalization, and direct-to-consumer content all seem like areas that could keep growing.

But from a public-market perspective, there doesn’t seem to be a clean way to invest in the sector.

OnlyFans is private.
Many of the largest adult-content platforms are private.
Public companies that are adjacent to the category are usually not pure plays.

The closest I can think of are companies like PLBY or RICK, but even those are very different business models and come with their own risks.

So my question is:

Is adult content basically a profitable but mostly private industry?

Are there any public companies with meaningful exposure?

And would AI make this sector more investable, or would it mostly benefit private platforms and payment infrastructure?
