23 years old with $500, if you had to put it into one stock and forget it for 40 years, what would you choose?
I’m 23 years old and thinking about putting **$500 into one single ticker** and then basically forgetting about it for the next **40 years**.
This is not my emergency fund, and I’m not trying to day trade. I understand that $500 is a small amount, and I also understand that trying to turn it into a massive number requires serious risk.
The idea is simple:
Invest $500 today
Pick only one ticker
Turn on DRIP if applicable
Do not touch it for 30–40 years
Accept crashes, volatility, and drawdowns
Open it decades later and see what happened
I’ve looked at **TQQQ** because it seems like one of the few tickers that has the mathematical upside to potentially become a very large amount over decades, especially if the Nasdaq/tech sector keeps growing. But I also know TQQQ is a 3x leveraged ETF, not a normal long-term investment, and it can get destroyed during major crashes.
So my question is:
**If you had only $500 and had to choose one ticker to forget for 40 years, what would you choose and why?**
Would you choose something like:
TQQQ
SOXL
QQQ/QQQM
VOO/VTI
NVDA/MSFT/AMZN/GOOG/TSLA
Bitcoin/crypto-related ticker
A dividend stock/ETF with DRIP
Something else completely?
I’m not asking for guaranteed returns. I’m asking what has the best asymmetric upside if the plan is to buy, forget, and not panic-sell during crashes.
Curious to hear what people would pick for a very long-term, high-risk, one-ticker experiment.
