Warren Buffett famously said to 'never bet against America', i.e. trust the best companies in the market. But he's now sitting on a cash pile of roughly $397 billion, approximately 56% to 60% of his company's wealth. Isn't that betting against the American stock market, when you can't find a single company worth investing in? If he believed in the future of American enterprise at this specific moment in time, why sit on enough dry powder to buy multiple Fortune 500 companies outright. It seems to represent a refusal to participate in the stock market at current prices.
Thoughts? Why is the most common advice for everyone else still to not sit on too many cash equivalents?
(Yes I already asked AI, it tried to argue with me while actually coming to roughly the conclusion: Berkshire Hathaway is choosing not to swing at any pitch right now, biding time until the whole place goes on sale. )
