Most people read or listen to the news. The news is constantly updating the state of the markets. If a person is invested in the S&P500 and opens the Wall Street Journal or the New York Times, there’s always going to be a big red or green number plastered across the front. One needn’t then “look at their portfolio” to know they just got poorer for the fifth straight week in a row because some demented old f\*ck is pulling strings he has no business pulling. They know. They can’t escape the information unless they stop paying attention to the world around them, which most intelligent investors won’t. All these protestations of “zoom out” and “don’t check your portfolio” and “this is a buying opportunity” ignore the reality of life in the digital Information Age. It’s 100% reasonable for people to worry day-to-day.
