why is gold inflation hedge but goes down when fed raises rates for inflation?

yep another gold question. Gold is said to be good during inflation. But the fed raises rates during inflation. rising rates are bad for gold. falling rates are good for gold. So, unless the fed sits on their hands and doesn't rise rates (which I think they may want to do), how is gold good during inflation?
