Hi everyone,
I recently started investing and put money into stocks for the first time in my life. Now I’m not sure how I feel about one of the investments I made.
Over the last few years, especially since 2022, a lot of European defense companies have grown a lot. Some of these stocks have gone up massively and it seemed like a strong sector, so I ended up investing some money there.
But the thing is, I’ve always been pretty critical of war and the military industry. So part of me feels uncomfortable about potentially making money from companies connected to that.
At the same time, it feels like in many parts of Europe it’s getting harder and harder to build wealth without taking risks in the market. Owning a home feels almost impossible for many people unless they get lucky with investments or inheritance (which isn’t really an option for me).
I’ve only been learning about investing and company growth for about a year, so I’m also still trying to understand the risks. After such a big run in a sector like this, how realistic is it that stocks could drop very quickly?
I’m curious how others here think about this.
Have you ever invested in defense companies?
And do you ever think about the ethical side of certain investments, or do you separate that from your financial decisions?
