I just read a finance article claiming that investing a small amount every day into the stock market could grow into a million dollars by retirement. The idea is based on long term compounding and “average market returns”. On paper it all sounds great; invest consistently, let time do the work, and eventually you hit seven figures.
The part that doesn’t really add up to me is what that future million actually means. The article talks about reaching a million dollars like it is some universal milestone, but it barely addresses how inflation changes purchasing power over decades. A million dollars thirty years from now will not buy what a million buys today. In real terms it could be worth closer to a fraction of that.
How does investing into this ponzi make sense for someone with little to no capital?
