Options trading in retirement accounts - smart or a bad idea?

Been trading options for a bit now (mostly defined-risk strategies) and have done fairly well so far. I’m disciplined with sizing and risk, but I’m also aware that success early on can lead to overconfidence.

I’m debating whether options trading should have any place in a retirement account (IRA/Roth/HSA), or whether that’s just playing with fire. The tax advantages are tempting, but retirement accounts aren’t exactly recoverable if you blow them up.

Would you use limited options strategies in a retirement account? Or keep retirement accounts boring and do all options trading in a taxable brokerage?

Curious what others do and what lessons you’ve learned.
