Judging from the posts on here there’s lots of fear and worry around at the moment and it’s pretty easy to get lost in the news and headlines during weeks like this (especially when rhe news flow is rapid and moves stocks and markets).
But weeks like this are when you get to step up to the plate and take a swing. If you’ve been researching a business and think that the problems it solves for its customers are going to mean that it makes more money next year, and years after that, then the fact it’s available for 20% cheaper this week compared to last week shouldn’t matter much.
If the underlying business itself is unchanged then it might be a chance to buy a little part ownership stake in that business. Took me ages to do this myself. But once you do you can use weeks like this to ‘swing’ and add positions that will make you money as time goes by. You don’t have to ‘swing’ every day or every week or even every month, but if you swing hard when the conditions are short term scary then you get the chance to make money when things go back to normal and good businesses get the chance to just do their thing without their prices being affected by market noise.
Anyway, I’ve been investing for about 17 years and have lost plenty of money along the way, but have also made some. And I know how hard it is to manage emotions or not know what’s really going on or how it might all shake out when the market gets scary / your picks fall a lot quickly, so hopefully the above helps. Happy to chat to anyone who wants to if it’d help if posting in the main thread is too intimidating (e.g if you’re a newer / novice investor)
