Are you choosing investments based on the news or do you pay for investment newsletters etc.?

Hi everyone, I have spent the last two years learning a lot about the different types of investments out there. I have put myself on track for retirement with my IRA, 401k, real estate and high yield savings. I have dabbled a bit in my own little brokerage account and done well with some heavy hitting stocks like Nvidia and Google. Companies that have a strong history and are not super risky. But I want to grow my brokerage account!!
How do you guys learn what companies to invest in and when to buy and sell? Do you read investing newsletters, pay for a service or do you do your own research by reading the news and intepreting? What are you paying attention to in the news?
