When investing in stocks using fundamentals and charting do you look at overall market first?

Right now I'm looking at investing using channel bottoms and EMA levels and want to scalp swing stock trades, overall market looks overbought and today smaller name stocks fell but QQQ/SPY/SPX were up.

When doing investing and buying individual name stocks at the low end is it best to check the overall market trend before investing? Ex: if SPY/QQQ is in a rising wedge chances are market is going to fall - but lets say you found a stock already near the low end of the channel touching support.

People using this strategy how do you manage the conflicting market movement? - Stick to the induvial stock names and not the overall market?
