Advice: Non-US and non-tech diversification?

Background: My wife and I are in our mid-30s, have 3 young kids, own a house (~30% equity), and have $1M-$1.5M in assets, most of which is in VOO or similar US large cap index funds. Every new $ that can be allocated to investments is going to VOO (or similar).

With the asset base above, I’m starting to feel more and more comfortable with our retirement picture by the day, but I personally think it’s too early to start diversifying into bonds. Should I think about diversifying my portfolio in other ways for some downside protection? Per the above, I’m very heavy equities, US, mega caps, and technology. Is now the right time to start thinking about diversifying into international, “safer” industries, etc.?

Thanks all.
