Is a physical gold investment actual a bad investment in a SHTF-scenario?

i suppose this might be a unpopular opinion but hear me out what i mean with that.

We all know that gold & now silver pumped insanely in the last time, reaching many new ATHs.
Caused by QE, geopolitical conflicts, political shenanigans und a dysfunctional & corrupt financial systems.

In 2016 i've bought my first gold coin for a price of 1083€ (according to AI that was $1156 at that time). Back then finding a buyer for your coin was easy.
In todays money the 1083€ of 2016 is about 1400€. So nothing close to the 3800€/$4400 it is worth today.

Seeing this massive price increase it is save to say that it is not very affordable for many "average joes" anymore.
In a worst case scenario (or even SHTF), this might even be more true.

So where is the benefit of having gold when the possible "buyer-base" is constantly decreasing and selling get more and more challenging or even dangerous.

So i am interested in hearing what you guys think about that. What do you plan to do with you Gold in a scenario where there are a huge crisis (i.e. war, civil war, collaps of the banking system worse than 2008)?

Isn't silver a way better SHTF-investment?
