In today’s world, everyone seems to be controlled by politics, even in investing. People love to shout how companies like Tesla or palantir are immoral, but then love investing in Amazon, meta, and Google. Google and meta sell your data and privacy, meta has actively pushed politics and ideology on people and admitted it. Amazon is renowned for their terrible treatment of their employees - offering terrible pay, not allowing them to unionize, not allowing bathroom breaks even. Apple uses essentially slave labor to make their phones, boeing and Lockheed Martin create weapons that kill people. These are NOT moral companies. 99% of companies are not moral. So why do people say “I don’t invest in Tesla because it’s not a moral company, I don’t like musk”. Or “I don’t invest in palantir because it’s evil”. Palantir found bin Laden, palantir is what has helped Ukraine fight Russia, Tesla makes cars without drivers… that’s evil? Or is it just the ceo you don’t like? What about bezos? He’s cool?
Do people not see the hypocrisy here? I’m not saying these companies aren’t evil, like I said most companies are. It’s a side effect of capitalism. It just seems odd to me when people try to get on their high horse about how they morally can’t invest in certain companies then happily invest in others.
