is options trading for busy professionals worth it

I am 41, and I have always followed traditional advice, max out 401k, ira contributions, taxable brokerage in index funds, my portfolio is about 520k, a standard three fund portfolio basically and returns have been fine, averaging around 9% annually over the long term.

I started reading about options earlier this year, it honestly seemed risky and complicated, and definitely outside my comfort zone, but I kept seeing discussions about systematic approaches that generate income without requiring market predictions, and so I decided to test with 25k, about 5% of my portfolio, which is small enough to lose without panic.

I spent 3 weeks paper trading before going live, and my strategy is selling credit spreads on spx, nothing fancy then follow specific entry rules, defined position sizing, clear exit criteria.

8 weeks in, the account is up 11.4%. I made money 6 out of 8 weeks, two losing weeks that gave back about 4% total and the time commitment is minimal, maybe 10 minutes daily at market close when I get trade signals, but what surprised me most is how systematic it can be, I thought options trading was all gut feel and predictions, but this approach removes discretion completely, just follow the rules, take the outcome, and don't overthink it.

I'm still treating this as an experiment, I will not scale up allocation until I have tracked a full year including some market turbulence. But so far it's adding value to my portfolio without creating stress or consuming time.
