I ran into an individual at my work who told me he wanted to discuss something with me. He pulled out of his wallet and 100,000 VND note and told me that I should buy 1000000 VND for $60 USD as a future investment. He also showed me a 25000 Iraqi Dinar note and suggested I might invest in that as well. I looked up the exchange rate for VND to USD and the $60 is roughly twice the exchange rate. I also looked at the historical exchange rate for VND to USD and it has stayed relatively flat for the last decade. Is this VND investment a thing people actually do? Seems kind of bizzare to me.
