I get stock "news" from cnbc and the wsj, and occasionally from other news that pops up elsewhere from others. It seems like at least every other day, there is a doom and gloom story that the market is going to go down. Sometimes I look up the author and notice that their background is in journalism, and they have no formal education in business, or finance or economics. Sometimes I notice the people writing these articles are just out of college.
I'm starting to wonder if the media companies require a certain amount of these doom and gloom articles to be put out every week, simply because it draws on fear and fear gets more clicks, which in turn gets more eyeballs on their ads. It would be interesting to look at all the articles that have been put out over the last 20 years or so to see if this is the way it has always been, no matter what is happening in the market. My guess is it has always been this way.
Chatgpt made what I thought was a good point in saying, "they put articles like this out, because markets are cyclical , and they know, eventually they will be correct." If that is true, I find that very disingenuous.
There have been bull runs that lasted 11 years. From what I looked up, it was 2009 to 2020. I can't say for sure, but my guess is these media companies were putting out doom and gloom articles the entire time.
Still I need to read news on the stock market but I'm growing tired of constantly seeing this stuff. I can ignore the article but I can't ignore the sensationalist leaning headlines.
I guess what I'm asking is, what are your thoughts on this and how do you all deal with it?
