How much has your investment account recovered since the early April lows? And deciphering the “pain” statement.
As a newish investor in at least brokerage at least (based on an inheritance), I was cursing in early April like some others when my account had gone from 18% gains to a low point of about a 3% loss. Up to that point, I was somewhat satisfied that I had compiled a diversified portfolio made up of ETF’s/individual equities/bonds, and precious metals (I loaded up just a bit more on the latter 2 during the downturn admittedly). But for the most part I stayed the course. As of this morning, my account has gained back about 14%. Interested to hear how others have recovered.
\-Also, I’m curious about Trump’s statement of: “**They’ll be a little bit of pain**” and people’s interpretation of that. Without trying to make this overly political, would like to get others’ take on what they think he really meant on this. Personally, I don’t think he ever really got to the “pain” part he was talking about, as he was not able to fully implement his onerous tariffs like he had planned. I think his Wall Street Bros, CEO’s, and general public sentiment backed him out of this. Sure, we might have slightly better trade agreements in place now, but I don’t think he really accomplished his plan of trying to re-route the economy so that would manufacturing would come back to the U.S. (I think it was a shortsighted idea and we are no longer that type of work force. Plus it takes years to build these types of facilities). Hence, I don’t think the precipitous downturn in early April and the recent recovery was the “little bit of pain for a while”…he was talking about. I think it was supposed to be much higher prices, etc…for a fair amount of time as a result of his policies. I think now we still might see price increases in the short-term, but I would expect that will stabilize with the new agreements in place.
Would like to hear comments on both paragraph topics.
