The number of companies suspending guidance since 4/1 is the same amount as 3 weeks into the pandemic
After being struck by the growing list of companies who are suspending guidance, I started researching today how it compares with the early days of the pandemic. As stated in the post title, the number today (i.e. 35 companies) is equivalent to the amount 3 weeks into the pandemic. (in total, the pandemic ended up with over 800 companies suspending guidance.) While suspending guidance isn't a straight up indicator of a recession, the surge in guidance suspensions across multiple sectors, especially among large-cap or economically sensitive companies, is a strong warning sign of economic distress.
