She steered us through the post pandemic economic recovery, managed the debt ceiling standoff that could have crashed the economy, and is navigating inflation without creating a recession all while market pundits were predicting disaster at every turn.
You rarely see headlines about Yellen because she doesn't create drama or seek attention. She just quietly does the complex, thankless work of keeping our financial system stable. When inflation was spiking, she admitted her "transitory" prediction was wrong a level of accountability almost extinct in Washington these days.
The woman is 77 years old and has more stamina than people half her age, flying around the world negotiating global minimum tax agreements and managing economic sanctions. She's maintained her independence despite enormous political pressure from both parties.
So yeah, maybe I am one of the few who truly appreciates what Janet Yellen has done. But in today's hyperpartisan world, competent public servants who just do their jobs rarely get the recognition they deserve.
