Trump isn't mysterious. He's not playing 4D chess, and he's not playing tic-tac-toe. He has told you what he is doing.
Trump is restructuring US government revenue. He is introducing tariffs to offset the loss of income from ELIMINATING INCOME TAX.
He is also creating an environment where jobs are lost, to force the FED TO LOWER RATES.
He is also nudging investment from stocks into bonds, driving rates down.
All this is inflationary and a soft default on debt, as well as allowing real payments to entitlements to go down (while not dropping nominally).
If Trump ditches income tax too soon, consumers will have more discretionary income and the Fed will be less motivated to reduce rates.
My base case is we have to see really bad jobs numbers out of the US, a high likelihood of significant Fed cuts, and Trump talking about tax cuts again. That's bottom territory for you market timers. Might be a bit early or late, but close enough.
