Hi. I lost my job of 6 years last December and had a substantial balance in my 401k that was 100% invested in VTI. After keeping the balance in my employer's account in order to collect my final payout in last year's profit sharing I closed the account and had them mail the balance as a check that I could deposit into my personal fidelity IRA. Somehow I lucked out on the timing and basically pulled my entire balance from VTI right before the market took a crap. Now it's sitting as cash balance in fidelity and I want to reinvest it in either VTI or SPY and forget about it for the next 15 years but I get the feeling we aren't done seeing the value drop. Does it make sense to wait until this tarrif and retaliation stuff plays out so I can maximize gains on market recovery? I'm not an active investor so I want to put the money into something smart and stable soon but I'm having a hard time commiting the majority of my retirement account to a falling red line. What would you do in my position?
