Advice on allocating a modest windfall of cash from college to investing
**Should I park a recent windfall of cash into a 529 to pay for my college age son over the next 4 years?**
Received a fair amount of cash that I would like to use to pay for the unsubsidized portions of my son's college. There's enough to pay for all of his college and plenty left over to fund my IRA this year and invest the remaining into VTI (not sure what % of the windfall) and the rest into a more conservative account. ( My emergency fund is up to date).
He's currently in Year 1 at college.
I've googled this and it appears that a money market fund in a 529 is the way to go but some of these 529 sites can be confusing on how much they are earning and the fees. Just trying to find a solid one that gives me the best return overall. I know the return is not much in a money market, but I'm not rich, either. So every penny earned counts IMO.
Also, I live in Texas, so state Taxes do not apply, only federal. My MAGI is less than 80k.
**No debt.**
**After this, I would like to invest into VTI and place the rest into either a Vanguard Money Market, CD** ladder**, or HYSA. Still unsure with those last 3.**
**Thank you in advance!**
