With today's dividend reinvestment in my Vanguard IRA, I now am the happy owner of slightly more than 10,000 shares of VTSAX!
It has been a goal of mine for several years to accumulate 10,000 shares of VTSAX. I set this goal so i wouldn't be too concerned about the dollar value of my account, but rather only what I owned.
This has made it much easier to stomach market downturns because I could buy more shares on sale if the price dropped.
This is the bulk of my retirement savings. I also have about 250 shares of VOO in a taxable brokerage, and my wife has about $1.1 million in her 401k and IRA, plus we have a $150k cash emergency fund so I am feeling good about our ability to retire one day.
The plan is to continue to dollar cost average into VOO and VTSAX, and then when my IRA hits $2 million I will shift some percentage of it into bonds (40% into VBTLX?) and pick a retirement date.
Our total net worth should be about $5 million at that point, which feels like the right target number.
