Outside of the Mag 7 and AI/BTC/meme stocks, a lot of the companies that make up the majority of our everyday lives have done terrible over the past 1-5 years.
Here's a few examples but others can be found everywhere you look. I think most people would agree that they engage with these companies on a daily basis & most (if not all) are profitable with reasonable P/E, yet they've seen such a destruction in their share price.
1-5 Year Losses
Kraft Foods: -20%
General Mills: -17%
PepsiCo: -15%
Ford: -20%
Dollar General: -40%
Target: -40%
Papa Johns : -40%
Wendy's: -20%
Macy's: -40%
Kohl's: -65%
UPS: -30%
Pfizer: -10%
For all this talk about a rotation out of speculative stocks and into defensive companies...that trade never materialized. Feels like negative headlines only effect a handful of tickers. For example: recent low retail spending/sentiment is negative for UPS & Kohls/Macy's but not for anyone else.
Are these companies just dead money now?
