Sell vested restricted stock at loss and hold for at least 1 year?

Hi, I received some restricted stock from my employer last year, so it was already taxed as ordinary income when they vested. x

The stock has tanked in past few months, but I am still optimistic on my company's outlook. I am thinking of selling these shares now to claim a short-term capital loss (I'm at a high-tax bracket of 35% and also get NIIT taxed).

I think the stock will recover and go up, so I plan on holding these shares for at least one year. If it goes to plan and the stock has gone up after at least 12 months, I will sell, and capital gains will be long-term. Has anyone done this? Is it worth it in your opinion?
