My advisor wants me to sell a significant chunk of my portfolio (stocks and ETFs) to "rebalance" into a lower volatility fund managed by his brokerage. I'm new to this and losing >20% to tax just to turn around and reinvest seems like a bad idea. I'd have to wait for the market to gain ~20% just to get back to baseline. Is this normal? I'm new enough to investing to have never been in this situation.
