This came completely out of the blue last week but the President of the company I work for told me he is going to give me an investment account with 250k to “see what I can do” and evaluate my thought process in terms of investing.
I feel it’s necessary to provide some context before asking for the inevitable advice. I have worked for the same company for 18 years. I started when I was 18. The field is completely unrelated to finance. My role within the organization has very little to do with our company financial situation. I’m one of three people that manage the day to day operation of the entire business as a whole. There are 32 locations and 280 employees. We started off as a mom and pop company but now do 15-17 million dollars a year in revenue.
Over the years I talk to the President about stocks and investments but I’ve always felt it’s been casual. He doesn’t give me advice or talk about company finances with me. Also when I say the President he’s really just the owner with family members on the board since it’s a non-profit. He has full control and final say. He’s giving me 2% of the profits. I let him know I’m somewhat nervous about this and good response was …You should be. He also said this is really a drop in the bucket in terms of the organizations financial holdings.
My question is: with 250k to invest…what route should I go. He is NOT an advocate of crypto. He does not day trade. I’m looking for advice on how to build a portfolio that has 2-5 year growth potential. I’m not throwing it all in SPY and VOO as I think that would be considered lazy. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
