U.S. suspends Microsoft, Adobe and six IT outsourcing giants from green-card labor certification program

Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling announced Thursday that Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, HCL Technologies and Capgemini are being suspended from the Permanent Labor Certification Program (PERM). The Department of Labor will stop accepting new applications and processing pending applications involving these companies, with Sonderling citing multiple active federal investigations in announcing Microsoft’s and Adobe’s suspensions.
The action freezes a key step in employer-sponsored green cards. It does not itself cancel existing H-1B visas, though it could disrupt affected workers’ path to permanent residency.
