I’ve been swing trading for 4-5 years using basic trendlines and have worked out a system that’s working well and provides income. My system is biased on longs and I rarely short. I select stocks based on them being in uptrends, generally adhering to trend lines over 2-3 months and having largely consistent price and volume action. I buy when a stock is within 2% of the trendline and generally sell after 4% gain or loss, although I let some winners run (which works better for longs in an up market). Trade duration is a few days to a few weeks and I make around 10 trades a month, with a 60%+ win rate. I feel good about this system in a market where the major indices are trending upward. Any suggestions on how to plan to adapt this system in a market down trend? I’m not sure it’ll work as well to just start shorting stocks when they hit a resistance trendline, but maybe that’s one way I’d adapt. Are any of you thinking about how you’d adapt your current system to a down trending market, or a choppy to down market?
