I have money for the first time in my life just sitting in my bank account

The only advice I've heard is to put it in the S&P and sit on it. I'm not even totally sure how to do that, but I could probably figure it out.

The only investment experience I have is noticing the crypto boom years ago and getting in about halfway to the peak and making a little money.

I'm asking for general advice, long-term and short-term.

Maybe long-term advice to grow and protect most of my money, but I'd also like to take risks on some individuals stocks.

I'm basically asking for experienced people to give advice to someone brand new.
