After you stop trading a setup, what gets you to start taking it again?

For people who pause a setup when it starts failing: what gets it switched back on?

Say it's a daily-chart breakout setup in liquid stocks. The entries and exits haven't changed, but follow-through has been poor enough that you stop taking new trades. You keep recording every qualifying setup while you're out. Now a few work. That could be the start of a better patch, or just a few winners in a bad one. Waiting for a convincing recovery might also mean missing the trades that made the recovery convincing.

I can see the appeal of using market breadth or trend strength instead, but then there's another rule to choose and another way to make the backtest look better. If you've actually paused and restarted a setup, what did you watch while flat, and what specifically allowed the first trade back? I'm interested in criteria you had prepared beforehand
