Were the early days of current high market cap stocks value plays?

Trying to get some perspective from investors early on who purchased current stocks like AAPL, GOOGL, META, AMZN, NVDA. In the early days of these stocks (e.g first few years after IPO) were these stocks considered a value play? Was it more just luck that they shot up and competitors lost out? I’m trying to get a comparison for early days of some stocks like TSLA, SPCX, RDDT. Many consider these to be appropriately or over valued. But they’re still held by many people. My brother in law owns shares of these and when I tell him I think they’re overvalued he lists the potential upsides. I don’t really have much of a response other than I hope you get lucky and/or get out at the right time. I guess my question is, is there truly a way to value some nascent companies? Or is it more just luck?
