which timeframe do you actually pick as the "boss" when they disagree, and does it change with what you're trading for?

Trying to work out if there's a rule here or if everyone just does it by feel.

the standard advice is use higher timeframes for trend and lower for entries, which is fine until they disagree, and they disagree constantly. daily says uptrend, 4h is rolling over, 1h is outright bearish. so which one is the boss. if i defer to the daily i'm holding through the whole 4h drop, if i defer to the 1h i'm getting chopped out of a position the daily says is fine.

what i suspect is that the answer changes with holding period, not with the chart. if i'm swinging for days the daily is the boss and the 1h is just noise i have to sit through. if i'm in and out same day the 1h is the boss and the daily is context i mostly ignore. so the "right" timeframe isn't a property of the market, it's a property of how long i'm planning to hold, and picking the timeframe before deciding the hold time is backwards.

so how do people here actually resolve it. is there a dominant timeframe you always defer to regardless, or do you pick it off your intended hold time, or is it that a trade only counts if enough timeframes line up and you skip the ones where they fight. and does crypto's 24/7 nature change which timeframe you trust, since there's no daily close the way stocks have
