I’m new to value investing and still trying to figure out an approach that will work long term.
I’ve had some luck taking what may not be considered true value investing. I’ve been looking at companies effectively priced for failure with a recent drawdown of 40% or more in the last year that are either strongly cash generating and I think could recover - or have a ton of cash on hand and I feel the remaining business portion I’m paying for is undervalued. I hold a mix of illiquid micro caps, medium caps and large caps. About 95% of my cash is in the large caps and medium caps. I buy individual stocks and hold. I have no options, derivative positions or leverage - and that’s primarily due to inexperience. In the last 3 months when I started I’m up about 12.72% but that’s likely beginner’s luck.
Really interested in learning from folks here. What strategies are you using? Where did you learn your strategy or approach? What returns are you making?
