Full porting

I’ve seen this a few times on this sub. People talking about full port. Anyone ever done this? (Or say put more than 50% of an account into one trade)? How did it go?

It goes against every obvious tenet of the most basic risk management, but it seems the upside is so potentially large and the downside not quite as bad as it seems. My biggest investing regrets so far after a few months of individual stock picking is not taking significantly larger bets (MSFT and AMZN the most recent examples). Sure it could’ve gone the other way. That’s always a risk. But some stocks are just clearly waiting for a pretty dramatic re-rate, and I’m starting to get this crazy idea that maybe I should put 40% or more into one of these high conviction trades and then, after a dramatic surge, just trim it back to whatever % of that stock I’m comfortable holding indefinitely and putting the proceeds back into VTI or whatever broad index fund. This would be Roth Ira so no taxes). I’m 31 and again it’s Roth IRA so my horizon is about 30+ years. What do we think?
