Is the CPU renaissance in AI real, or are we just coping? $SOXL holders weigh in
Been sitting on $SOXL and this question keeps nagging at me: everyone's all-in on GPUs running AI workloads, but is the CPU side of semis getting written off too early?
The GPU dominance narrative is basically consensus at this point. Inference is still compute-heavy, and the big hyperscalers keep ordering GPUs like there's no tomorrow. But CPU architecture has been creeping back, especially for edge inference and agentic tasks that don't need the same parallel throughput.
Checked the moomoo community thread on this and it got me thinking, tbh. The bear case for semis ex-GPU is real, but the bull case isn't crazy either. Efficiency gains at the chip architecture level could shift some workload back toward CPUs, especially as the cost-per-token conversation heats up.
Ngl I don't have strong conviction either way. $SOXL is already a levered bet on the whole sector, so it smooths out the GPU vs CPU debate to some extent. But if CPUs actually claw back relevance in AI pipelines, the composition of the underlying index matters.
Anyone holding semis ETFs think the GPU-only thesis is getting stretched here, or is the CPU angle just cope at this point?
