The Market Cap Is Stuck in 2025. The Company Isn't.

A year ago, NRED was a copper explorer with a dream. Today, it's got AI patents, a CTO from Apple, and a computer vision deal in the works – all at roughly the same market cap.

I went back and looked at what NRED actually had a year ago.

The answer was pretty simple. It owned exploration ground near Copper Mountain, had encouraging soil samples, and was working toward drilling. That's the standard junior mining story - find a target and hope the next round of exploration proves it out.

Fast forward a year and the company has added a surprising amount.

MetalCore has grown into an in-house AI platform with more than 4 million records. Two patent applications have been filed. NRED entered an exclusive standstill agreement to evaluate acquiring EyeX, a mining computer vision platform that uses cameras, drones, and edge devices to monitor active mine sites.

The leadership team has changed too.

Valentin Saitarli joined as CTO after spending years building AI products at Apple and Uber. Lee Caplin joined the advisory board after a career spanning film production, technology investments, and the co-founding of Penske Media. Colonel Michael Calabrese brings decades of military intelligence experience, while Ed Kostenski has spent roughly 40 years in mining finance and has worked with projects connected to export financing.

The mining side kept moving as well.

The Wilmac property expanded to more than 16,000 hectares through the Trojan-Condor transaction. Recent geophysical work identified a magnetic anomaly interpreted as part of the same intrusive system associated with Copper Mountain. The company also rebranded around the idea of intelligent mining, reflecting a broader strategy than exploration alone.

The timing is interesting.

Just as NRED is working toward acquiring mining AI technology, Andreessen Horowitz led a $1.7 billion funding round for Travis Kalanick's Atoms, with mining highlighted as one of the first industries for physical AI. That funding doesn't say anything about NRED directly, but it does show that large investors are putting serious money into the same category.

What surprised me most is the valuation.

The company is still worth roughly C$9 million, despite adding technology, patents, experienced leadership, a larger land package, and a potential AI acquisition over the past year.

The market may decide those additions deserve a higher valuation, or it may not. That's what investing is all about.

What I do know is that when I compare today's company with the one from a year ago, I'm looking at a much larger collection of assets than a junior explorer with a promising piece of ground. That's why I'm still following this story closely.

Same valuation, completely different company. Whether the market catches up is the question – but the list of what's changed is hard to ignore.
