NRED just added a Hollywood producer who built a $10M immersive tech lab to its advisory board
Ive been reading the NRED news today and honestly this Caplin hire is wild. The guy produced HBOs True Detective. Multi Emmy winner. He produced Alisony Pictures. Academy Award nominated. He co founded the company that became Penske Media which owns Variety and Rolling Stone. And now he sits on NREDs advisory board.
But heres the part that actually stopped me. Caplin chairs iSTAR at Florida International University. Its a $10 million immersive tech lab focused on VR AR extended reality and next generation media. NRED is building MetalCore with 4 million records and evaluating EyeX for computer vision. Put those together and you start seeing something way bigger than a database.
MetalCore reads geological data. EyeX reads visual feeds from cameras and drones. iSTAR builds immersive visualization. The intersection of those three is basically a platform where a geologist could walk through a 3D model of the Wilmac property generated from AI data and drone imagery. Thats not some sci fi concept. Thats the exact stack NRED is assembling.
The digital mining market is about $72 billion. NRED is worth around $25 million. Most of that valuation is priced like they only own a copper project. But once Caplins immersive media expertise gets applied to geological visualization NRED could be building something no other junior has. Not even the majors have consumer grade immersive exploration tools.
The fact that management hired a Hollywood producer with a VR lab instead of another geologist tells me where they think this is going. They arent just trying to find copper. Theyre trying to build the first immersive AI exploration platform.
And honestly if they pull that off the $25 million market cap is going to look real silly.
