Title: $MOS is at a 5-year low and everyone hates it. That's exactly why I'm buying.
$MOS is on the floor. Lowest level in about five years. Record sulfur costs, a lousy quarter, plants idled. Sounds like a nightmare, and that's exactly why I'm looking. I'd rather buy what everyone hates right now than what's already in every portfolio.
The thing the market is ignoring: most of the current low is temporary. The sulfur costs are a cost spike, not a law of nature, they normalize again. The idled production pulls supply off the market, which actually supports prices. The potash business keeps running fine. And while I wait, I get a dividend of around 4%. So I'm getting paid to wait.
Behind it is something pretty simple: nearly 8 billion people have to eat every day, and without phosphate and potash, crop yields drop. That's not a fad, that's biology. Commodity cycles always turn eventually.
Where I'll be honest: "eventually" can take longer than you'd like, and nobody nails the exact bottom anyway. I'm not calling the day it turns. I'm calling the direction, collecting the dividend, and sitting it out.
Fits perfectly next to a hot AI name for me. One is hype, the other is dirt and bread. When the hype wobbles, the world still buys fertilizer.
(again: I'm in, so not a neutral observer)
