I am starting saying: I blew 3 accounts. Every time I thought, "okay, this time I've got it." (but it didn't).
Looking back, it was not bad luck. I think I was not disciplined when opening a trade or getting out. Probably my trading style was not adjusted to me (Too many Verticals...). In the 2 times I returned back to trading, I was thinking: "this time will be different; I will not do this and that...". But, the adrenaline of opening a new trade, screening stocks, looking to many charts, etc. was too powerful.
I do not know if my trading was more gambling or not having a plan. But I knew all the time the risks involved in each trade, looking at the Greeks, etc.
Now, I am profitable and enjoying options trading. What changed? I gave it one last try to myself. That time, I looked for support and avoided trading alone. I joined a trading community that basically brought me discipline (learning from others experience and accepting a new way to trade). I started to trade strategies that use longer-dated options, stopped trying to guess market direction and focused on index options (SPX and SPY). I learned income options strategies. No more stress trading. Actually, this is "boring trading" - when the market does not move too much (like in the past weeks), we just let the trade ride... Do I miss the short-term directional trade adrenaline? No. Now, I am profitable due to a new market approach and have become disciplined.
What's your story? What was your worst trade?
Best blowup gets my respect.
