Four crypto exchanges are trying to go public in 12 months

The SpaceX listing took all the attention this week, but the more interesting queue is behind it. Kraken has confidentially filed. BitGo filed for the NYSE. Consensys is reportedly preparing. And in Europe, Bitpanda is reportedly working toward a Frankfurt listing.

What I keep thinking about is the precedent Coinbase set in 2021. The day an exchange lists, its economics stop being a black box. You get audited quarterlies. You see whether the revenue is trading fees, custody, interest on idle balances, or something the marketing never mentioned.

That's the part retail never had before. Right now you trust an exchange based on vibes and whether your withdrawals clear. A public filing forces the boring stuff into daylight: margins, customer concentration, how much of a "growth story" is actually growth.

The European angle is the one I can't read yet. A Frankfurt listing instead of New York or London is a bet that a crypto company can list as a regulated financial institution rather than a crypto stock. Different investors, different multiple, different scrutiny. No idea if that thesis holds.

The counterweight is timing. IPO windows close fast when markets turn, and a few of these were floated for the first half of 2026, which is nearly gone. Plenty could slip.

So genuine question for the people here who lived through the Coinbase listing: did it actually change how you judged exchanges, or did the audited numbers just become one more thing to argue about?
